The Red Chair Continues...

Inn at Lake Joseph

One of the best activities that the Red Chair got to experience while at the Inn was to try out the rowboats on Lake Joseph.  He’d never rowed a boat before, but had some fun trying …

Red even made a new friend on the lake…
Since the Red Chair left us, he's traveled to New York City, the Jersey Shore, and on into Pennsylvania.  Check out the route at Red Chair Travels.  What a voyage!!

The Red Chair Visits Lake Joseph

We had an interesting guest at the Inn this past week--the Red Chair came to see us to find out what Lake Joseph and Sullivan County are all about.  Who (or What) is the Red Chair, you ask?  Well, it's a personality that's traveling all across the US this year, visiting Inns and Bed & Breakfasts like us, and finding out about the wonderful events and places that each location features.
The Red Chair had a fun moment at the Forestburgh Playhouse, participating in a performance of the very funny comedy, Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five.”  If you’re familiar with the play you’ll remember that the evil boss, Mr Hart, spends some time tied up to—you guessed it!—a chair!  The Red Chair took his part very seriously!

Inn at Lake Joseph
Spring is finally here, and we're enjoying some beautiful weather--sunny and warm.  That brings us to thoughts of cool, refreshing drinks on a warm afternoon.  We recently met the owners of the new Roscoe Beer Company, who have started their brewing company in the historic trout town of Roscoe, New York.  Roscoe is about a 40-minute drive from us, and is a great little village to visit, but you can sample the beer at several places in the area, including Mr Willy's restaurant, our closest restaurant neighbor.  We hope to see you soon!

Spring in the Catskills

Inn at Lake Joseph
Spring in the Catskills!  Sullivan County is warming up, both weather-wise and activity-wise.  Here are a few links that will help you find out about things to see and do up here in the country:  The Sullivan County Visitors' Association website has an event calendar that links to most events in the area. And for those of us who love to get out and walk, I've just discovered a marvelous new (to me, at least) website called  Trailkeeper.org that lists many hikes available in this region. Another website that will be helpful to anyone looking for activities in this area is Catskill Social.  Remember that the Woodstock Museum at Bethel Woods is open now with its new exhibits; and the performance roster at the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center is filling up with great concerts and events for this season.  Don't delay!  Sullivan County, the Catskills, and the Inn at Lake Joseph await your visits!

Inn at Lake Joseph
Great Guests
We always have wonderful guests, but earlier this season we had some extra-special guests that we really enjoyed.  The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, and his wife and family stayed in our Cottage for several days, and enjoyed some quiet family time together.  They were a most considerate and congenial group, and we look forward to seeing them again.
We also enjoyed our yearly New Year's Eve celebration, with fun guests and great food from a near-by restaurant, Mr Willy's.

Inn at Lake Joseph
We hope you've had just the kind of holiday you desire--festive, restful, active, vegetative, or whatever!
Here's a photo of our tree after it was decorated:
And now it's the day after Christmas, and the Inn is still bustling with guests.  We're looking forward to our yearly New Year's Eve party, which features a great buffet dinner from Mr Willy's in Monticello, plus homemade appetizers and desserts from the Inn's fabulous kitchen elves.  It's always a great party and we have a very few rooms still available.  Hope to see you soon...

December at the Inn

Inn at Lake Joseph
It's cold outside, but warm and cozy inside the Inn, these days.  Our guests have been hiking the trails, then coming in to warm up and have hot chocolate or soup.  We went out to the Pine Farm tree farm in Youngsville yesterday, and cut a beautiful Fraser fir to put up in the living room.  We'll get the decorating done this week, to be all ready for the Christmas season.
Next Saturday, December 8, Gillinder Glass Factory & Store in Port Jervis is having a SPECIAL GLASS BLOWING DEMONSTRATION & FACTORY TOUR from 10 am to 3 pm.  This historic company has been in business for more than 150 years--their store is lots of fun to visit, too.
